Prevent & Empower

Youth Culture is Powerful

What We Do > Prevention Services > Prevent & Empower

If we want a world without gender-based violence, then we must invest in one where prevention matters. This is exactly why WHW strongly centers on youth through its Prevent & Empower education program. This evidence-based, award-winning five-day curriculum program partners with over 5,500 youth in over 40 schools.

We design programming to meet youth & schools’ needs as we bring experts into the classroom to educate and empower youth on the prevention of teen dating violence and teen sexual violence. Prevent & Empower addresses setting boundaries, identifying red flags, understanding consent, promoting healthy relationship dynamics—including online activity, and activating upstander intervention.

Facts & Statistics

Only 33% of teens who were in an abusive relationship ever told anyone about the abuse.

Students physically abused by dating partners are 2x more likely to earn C’s and D’s vs. A’s and B’s and are 25% more likely to drop out of school.

Here what some attendees have to say

The topic about setting boundaries was the most helpful because I learned how to set different boundaries depending on what type of relationship I have with the person (family, friends, acquaintances).

The activity that was most helpful for me was when we used the flags because it allowed me to be hands-on and apply my knowledge and understanding of the topic.

The topic that was the most helpful was learning how to read emotions to know how someone's feeling.

I think the most helpful was learning ways to say no or get help.

The activity or topic that was most interesting or helpful was the Romeo-Juliet law because I didn't know that you could consent under the age of 18. Also the breathing exercise, I used that recently and it helped.

It promoted a conversation that has long been overdue.
